The athletic daily grind

In the morning we have to get up at 6 o’clock. Not everybody gets as easily out of bed as our educators. But after some time everybody is up. At 6:30 it is time for a decent breakfast. Then we go to different slopes in the Montafon. In the morning you can feel the excitement of some pupils.

Then we put on the ski boots and put our skis and our skipoles into the bus. At 8:00 am it’s time to go! Already 15 minutes later the 3rd class is at the ski lifts. Today we’re going to practice giant slalom. After we have finally reached the top we start with the warming up. Meanwhile the coaches set the course.

After three different warming up programs we start with the inspection of the course. Every little bump must be memorized and in the end you go through the course in your memory again.
Before we start we heat up our body again otherwise the risk of injury rises significantly.
Not everybody gets a good feedback by the coaches. For some it’s a fillip to do better in the second run.

After 8 runs everybody helps to clean the course. Then we go back to the academy for lunch.
But before we are having lunch we hang up our ski boots so they can dry.

At 12:45 it’s time for the well-deserved lunch for all pupils in the ski academy. Before we can go the trainers inform us about the afternoon program. Today our class has an indoor workout with Katja Wirth, a former ski racer.
First we have to perform a whole series of trunk exercises, but then she is gracious and plays football with us. To balance the loss of fluid, we always carry a water bottle with us.

After training we have free time and we get some tea and a snack before the first ‘study-lesson’ starts at 5 pm. This lesson lasts until 6pm. Half an hour later, we have dinner, but before dinner the pupils have a break of 30 minutes. In this time we watch television or we let off steam in our gym.
From 7 pm until 7.45 pm the second ‘study-lesson’ takes place. Then we all have leisure time until 8.45 pm.

At 9 pm we have to be in bed.
Then Kathrin or Alex come and collect our mobile phones.
Our key must be always in the lock so we can immediately leave our room in case of an emergency as our doors are closed during the night.
